From Survivor to Solution – Andrea’s Story

“When I woke up from surgery and learned I no longer had a bladder, I thought my life was over. I was handed medical supplies that were cold, clinical, and completely out of touch with my dignity. There were no instructions for how to feel confident again. Just bags, tape, and silence.”

As a mother, a woman, and a human being — Andrea Poston knew that this wasn’t enough.

Every mirror reminded her of what was taken. Every public outing felt like a risk. The fear of leaks. The odor. The shame. The way people stared — or worse, didn’t know how to look at her at all.

But instead of hiding, Andrea made a choice: she would become the solution she never received.

She took her lived experience and transformed it into a mission. With no design background, no funding, and no blueprint — just passion and pain — with the help of a dear mentor and friend as a designer- they created the first leak resistant, washable, and beautiful ostomy bag covers that resemble and function like a fanny pack or purse. This gave her peace of mind. Then she tested and perfected a skin-friendly adhesive spray that would seal a bag for up to 7 days.

After years of struggle, Ostomates United was born — a brand made by someone who gets it, for those still trying to find their strength.

“I didn’t just want to feel normal again. I wanted to feel powerful. I wanted to wear something that said I belong here, without having to explain anything.”

Now, Andrea’s products are helping veterans, survivors, children, and caretakers live with dignity — one outfit, one step, one smile at a time. She didn’t just want to build a brand.
